Crafting Short Fiction- Free Online Writing Workshop

On October 10th, Create Caribbean began its first free online writing workshop. Our diligent participants have been eager to write as they learn! They are now working on their original compositions for the review segment of this workshop. In this segment, the writers are guided on providing practical and non-biased feedback while also enjoying the opportunity to present their work and receive this valuable feedback from fellow participants and the supportive session leader Lisa J Latouche.

The Next Workshop Begins in January!

If you missed this workshop, the next one is coming up soon!

Our next free online writing workshop will be held in January led by Dr Schuyler Esprit and will focus on non-fiction writing. Stay tuned to our newsletter and social media to register!

The goal of the 6-week online workshops is to add to the resources available to the Dominican and wider Caribbean writing community by offering sessions on a variety of genres and themes. This will increase exposure to different writing styles and allow writers to experiment and receive feedback from local experts.

This program is brought to you by the Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation.

Stay tuned to our newsletter or check out our brand new Caribbean Writers’ Room website to keep up with our writing events!

Community Partners Program- Ongoing

The interns are currently working with our community partner organisations on their various projects following our Summer Intensive Training program. The interns will be involved in different projects including website building and designing, content creation, and a major project of the digitization of records for a few partners. You can visit our Community Partners page to read more about the program and visit our Intern Commons to meet the interns.

Dr Schuyler Esprit on the Digital Scholarship in the Americas Series

Dr Esprit will be speaking at the Digital Scholarship in the Americas Series:
From ALMANACS to RHIZOMES, The Caribbean Lives in Code(s) of Relation

You can register for free here: bit.ly/lbds-esprit

If you missed the last talk that Dr Esprit did, you can watch it on the Youtube channel of the Centre for Research Libraries. The talk was a part of the Diversity as Knowledge Series and titled The Right to Serendipity: The Unlikely Scenes of Caribbean Knowledge Production.

It highlighted the Caribbean as a site of research and knowledge production about Caribbean people, by Caribbean people and for Caribbean people. Dr Esprit explores this through the work of Create Caribbean, recognising unlikely collaborations between community organizations, students and citizen-scholars that led to formal and vernacular outcomes, constituting an invaluable part of the historical record of the Caribbean region.
