This year Create Caribbean has hit major milestones with the support of the Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective from the Mellon Foundation.
RTC Internship
Our RTC Internship program has expanded to include more opportunities for research and collaborative projects, and soon, access to self-paced courses in Caribbean History and Digital Humanities. Our RTC Internship Symposium took place on a grander scale than the previous symposium, and we also launched our official intern commons website, the Create Caribbean Intern Commons, which is a space for and about our interns. Visit the site to meet the interns, and take a look at the projects they have worked on. Recruitment for our 2023 cohort of interns starts soon! The criteria for the internship and the application process are available on the site.
Internship recruitment 2023 will run from 23rd January to February 15th and will include an open house info session for parents and high school visits.
Community Partners Program
This year, our total number of partner organisations amounted to six groups. Including five local partners - Dominica State College, Dominica Public Library and Information Services, The Chronicle Newspaper, Waitukubuli Writers Association, One Seed a Day Initiative, and one regional partner, UWI Mona Department of Literatures in English.
We hosted our very first Summer Intensive Training with community partners this year. At the two-week training, representatives of the organisations participated in lessons on Caribbean Studies, Digital Humanities, research methods, and digital tools that could support their organization’s goals. CCRI Interns were placed with each organization for one academic year to use their skills from the RTC program to support the organisations’ projects following the training. In the new year, we will expand the Partnership Programme to other Caribbean islands and engage new organisations in Dominica. If your organisation works in the area(s) of culture and history, youth, environment, technology or literature and the arts, and this sounds like something your team would be interested in, keep an eye out for applications in the second quarter of 2023!
The call for applications to join the Community Partners programme and to take part in the next Summer Intensive Training will launch in April 2023
As a branch of the Community Partners Program, Create Caribbean has also hosted multiple events for writers of all ages and experience levels. This year, we held two writing retreat weekends, our first free online writing workshops, and launched our Caribbean Writers Room website for emerging writers to network, share their work and access resources.
Create & Code 2022
Thank you to everyone who was a part of our summer tech camp Create and Code 2022! This was one of our biggest cohorts and it was a pleasure to guide the kids into the world of programming while having fun. We look forward to seeing everyone again next summer!
On January 5th we will be officially launching a major collaborative project: The Visualizing Caribbean Literature Project. The Create Caribbean team has been working hard on this project for a while and we are excited to finally share it! We invite you to keep up with our social media pages to learn more about this project and our work!
Free Online Writing Workshops 2023
We have received an overwhelming response after only one day of sharing on social media! We would like to thank everyone for displaying such great enthusiasm! Unfortunately, due to our limited capacity, registration is now closed. We look forward to seeing you at our next workshop! Visit our Caribbean Writers’ Room to see upcoming writing events for the year ahead.
Keep up with us on social media to catch all of our updates!
