Celebrating Caribbean Digital Scholarship
The Caribbean Digital IX, Surviving Storms Symposium…
Writing Short Fiction Workshop
Our first-ever free writing workshop is winding down with story review sessions. Witnessing the literary creativity nestled in the Caribbean region has been amazing as expected. Participants have been exercising their new skills in constructive feedback using Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process, and are eager to share their work and continue the exchange of feedback beyond the session.
Our next free online writing workshop will begin in January 2023 with a focus on non-fiction under the theme: "Writing Through Change". This workshop will be led by Dr Schuyler Esprit and will focus on the personal essay form and will help participants understand structure, style and elements of story in non-fiction writing. The theme of the workshop calls for participants to consider experiences, observations and memories of transitions and transformations in one's life or sense of self. The workshop is open to all levels of writers.

Community Partners Project
Interns are currently working with our community partners on projects involving large-scale data entry, digitization and website building among other work. These projects follow our first Summer Intensive Training for community partners held this year.
Caribbean Cyclone Cartography Project Symposium
On November 7th Create Caribbean was represented at the Surviving Storms Symposium at the Goldsmiths University of London by staff members Yuanne Stowe and Kaila-Ann Guiste, and former intern Gibran Esprit. The symposium brought together all parts of the project named Past, Present and Future, and launched a book, a product of the Still Standing: The Ti Kai Survey project. Visit here to read more about the book. Gibran and Kaila-Ann spoke about their experiences and thoughts regarding their roles in Dominica Story Project and Surviving Storms Past. The video of the live stream will soon be available on Surviving Storms’ Youtube Channel; in the meantime, subscribe and have a look at the meaningful films produced by the project.
The Caribbean Digital IX
The Caribbean Digital IX will convene at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, this week. The Caribbean Digital conference (TCD) is an annual international event held in locations in the United States and the Caribbean since 2014. After two virtual conferences in 2020 and 2021, this year's TCD will be held in person. Create Caribbean will be represented by our Director and Co-PI of the Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective (CDSC), Dr Schuyler Esprit alongside a few Create Caribbean interns.
The workshop "Collection Data and Caribbean Cultural Heritage" will be hosted on November 17 from 10 AM-12 PM. It will dive into epistemology, data types, and other elements of digital collections practice.
On November 18, panels and activities surrounding cultural heritage, community organizations, and data as memory will be held. The list of speakers is available on the TCDIX website. In the evening, there will also be a presentation by the TCD artist-in-residence, Marinna Shareef.
The full schedule of events is available on the TCD's website. There will be a live stream available.
